Coming Up - Shifting States Nov 29 - 11 December

Delighted to have been invited to take part in an Exhibition, with a group of 14 other artists, which explores themes to do with the Liminal and states of transition. Im currently in the final stages of making a group of mixed media prints for this show and enjoying exploring and working with large scale dry point plates. Combining the mark making with larger scale dry point plates is proving to be very liberating and opening up many more ideas and possibilities.

Work in progress

Its always exciting to start a new project and it was a real treat on Friday to undertake an excursion to the location, and starting point, for a new project which will take inspiration from the beautiful and historic setting of Wicken Fen in Cambridegshire. This project will be collaboration with the Artist Helen Terry whose work I have admired for a while and we plan to conclude our research with a joint exhibition of work next year.

I will be posting more news and images over the coming weeks.

More photos from this day

Well over 2oo people came along to see our work and helped us raise a mighty large sum for Isabel Hospice by buying tea and cake. Weather behaved itself and we had lots of fun meeting new people and catching up with friends and family.

Pop Up Gallery Event in Harpenden

The Very Silence

Introducing a new group of unique solar prints - i'll be showing these at a Pop Up Gallery event in Harpenden 9th - 14th May

Location - 8 Leighton Road, (opposite Waitrose)

Times - 10 - 5 every day. Ends Saturday 14th at 5pm

For this week only myself and Harpenden based artist Anna Perlin will be selling a range of recent and past work.

Recording the landscape through the camera's eye is usually something I keep as a starting point only but these new Solar prints bring that passion to the centre stage. They also reveal an obsessive undertaking that has kept me busy over the past few months - namely the desire to explore methods of using the solar plate for multilayered prints.

Work in progress

Going back to Painting has proved to be a massive challenge, as well as immensely rewarding. Having spent many years developing my practice through printmaking the phrase 'working out of my comfort zone' is to put it mildly. However, there's no gain without pain and despite the challenges i'm loving the possibilities that are opening up by combining painting with printmaking.

I'm currently working on a group of larger scale mixed media paintings on canvas inspired by drawings based on the 'Nostos' series of prints.

For these pieces I have been primarily exploring ways to produce larger scale multilayered mono print drawings which are then additionally painted into with oil paint after being applied to canvas.
